I support "chat" rooms, but for a different reason than you think. I think it would improve the remaining non-chat forum which I would not want to see shut down. I actually use this board to find information. I typically shovel ~50 posts to find one or two that have the kinds of info I would like. I suppose what I really want is a moderated newsgroup. A chat group would simultaneously improve the achievement of two purposes of this board. 1) the people who want a real time conversation would be better served 2) the people who want a low-volume, high-content resource would be better served as chat moved off. Is there any interest in all the SI faithful standardizing on one of the instant messaging systems like AOL Instant Messenger or Excite PAL or the like? It would facilitate even better communication here. Suggestions/comments?
