Sudanese Armed Forces Spokesman: Oil Fields are secure and traffic is normal on the national highway

Al- Anba News Paper, May 8th

The Spokesman of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant- Gen. Mohamed Osman Yassin stated on Sunday, May 8th, 1999 to Al - Anba daily news paper, that the Oil fields in Unity state are secure and Khartoum- Portsudan National Highway do enjoy normal traffic.

Lieutenant Gen. Yassin said that outlaws sneaked in from the eastern borders in an attempt to derail work at the oil pipelines and disrupt traffic on the highway. He affirmed that the outlaws were repelled and the armed forces are currently combing the area. Lieutenant- Gen. Yassin added that an additional force has been deployed in support to the armed forces in that area.

Spokesman, Lieutenant- Gen. Yassin, further, asserted that the Government is fully in control in Unity state and work is normal with higher morals and enthusiasm.
