NEW YORK, May 10 (Reuters) - BT Alex. Brown analyst Phil Rueppel raised his rating on Dell Computer Corp. to a buy from a market
perform.

-- Set price target of $50.

-- A broadening product line develops new growth drivers.

-- Dell has been moving into high-growth desktop segments.

-- As Compaq is struggling to realign, Dell's near-term opportunity is boosted.

-- Dell's expanding product line will contribute both to near-term growth and incremental margin opportunity.

-- "We believe the fiscal second quarter results conference call (scheduled for 18 May) could serve as a catalyst for a revision to our
financial forecast."
