If you are an active trader, use a broker that offers DIRECT ACCESS to the markets...even if it costs you $300 per month for the service...you will easily save that much in price improvement.

Search SI for Day Trading and you will find the major players in DIRECT ACCESS trading.

Charles Schwab ran a full page ad today in the WSJ called "Four common misconceptions many investors have about online trading"

ALL of the complaints about Web Street which are posted here are covered in the CS ad. Charles Schwab attempts to educate the complainers about what they should really expect from online brokerages. I suggest that you read it.
