OMTL!!! ...and GTE!!! Monday May 10, 3:33 pm Eastern Time Company Press Release Omtool and GTE Internetworking to Provide Comprehensive IP Network Faxing Solution Integrates LAN Fax Server and IP Fax Delivery Service to Reduce Telecommunication Costs and Provide Centralized Document Management
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 1999--Omtool Ltd. (Nasdaq: OMTL - news), a leading provider of network and Internet fax server solutions, and GTE Internetworking, a division of GTE Corp., today announced an agreement to enable corporate customers to send and receive faxes from Omtool's Fax Sr. software, combined with GTE's managed Internet Protocol (IP) network. This comprehensive IP faxing solution will significantly reduce the cost of faxing, while simultaneously increasing employee productivity and providing central management of fax traffic.
The solution comprises a software component, Omtool's Fax Sr., and a network component, GTE's IP Fax service. Omtool's Fax Sr. is integrated into an organization's existing infrastructure and acts as the consolidation platform, enabling users to submit fax documents from any fax machine, desktop or back office system. The collected documents are then routed over an IP connection to GTE's fax distribution and delivery service to be sent to their final destination, whether it be a legacy fax machine, virtual fax inbox or email account.
By routing faxes over its IP network, GTE manages documents end-to-end through a single, secure infrastructure, eliminating the need for fax boards, dedicated fax lines, and substantially reducing the cost of sending documents over the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
''Businesses are turning to network faxing solutions to provide end user flexibility and management of fax communications,'' said Mark Overington, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development, Omtool. ''This venture between Omtool and GTE Internetworking allows companies to reap the benefits of a network fax solution, while reducing office equipment and telecommunications costs by utilizing an IP network rather than PSTN lines.''
''This partnership seamlessly integrates the benefits of a LAN fax server and a managed, carrier-class fax delivery service in one solution,'' said Paul O'Brien, vice president of GTE Internetworking and general manager of IP telecom. ''We will provide Omtool's network fax users with a single, efficient IP connection that can handle large volumes of fax communications and distribute them globally over our network, enhancing the GTE IP Fax offer.''
This combined, comprehensive solution provides key benefits throughout the enterprise, including:
-- For the end-user: The ability to send and receive faxes from any desktop as quickly and easily as printing a document or sending an e-mail.
-- For the systems administrator: The ability to manage the flow of fax traffic in and out of the organization on a unified network-based infrastructure, enabling them to identify overall fax usage and manage costs.
-- For the CFO: The ability to significantly reduce the cost of faxing. Cost reductions result from both the productivity gains of desktop faxing and the hard-dollar savings compared to the traditional methods of faxing. About GTE Internetworking
