Please seperate theory from practice. Take a look at how few of the
14 original 38 GHz channels in the top 150 markets are not already in the hands of ART, AT&T, Bachow, Commco/Horizon, & Winstar. It's not a lot. Factor in the time before auction held, ends and new concern assembles manpower and knowhow that ART, AT&T & Winstar have in what really works and what is still pie in the sky. Nobody bought Bachow because tough negotiator and for a while cloud existed. Commco/Horizon has quite a few multi-license markets but only 1 in some of top 50 even after buying back a dozen or so from ART that it pretty much replaced from its other acquisitions.

LMDS reauction down to 7 bids only in round 34 yeilding Uncle Sam
only $44 million. Dropouts include ABC(Gabelli), Formus, Hyperion,
Touch America(Montana Power), and Western PCS. High bidders
for Puerto Rico is newco Light Speed for gross 5.4 million and net$2.8
million for 3.5 million POPS. Other large bidders ar TLA Spectrum for
$7 million for 13 licenses, McLeod $5 million for 14, and Cloudnine
$3.1 million (after 45% discount) for 29 markets. Auction likely winds
down tomorrow with some newbies having some nice tier 4 and 5
regional footprints if they get funded for operations in time to be first
into their modest fruit bearing markets.

Bernard,

To wait for BK, not a chance. Too many other players know the value and are in the wings.

To wait for auctions, too much time to consolidate what you don't have and then assemble a team with experience and roll out the goods will end up in another year or two lost. There are too many Co's who know the value of this Tech and are ready to move now to obtain Market share.

I respectfully disagree but thank you for your input!

Ric D.

Bernard,

I more than anybody value your input on these boards even though we don't discuss much together. I was one of the original posters on Prodigy which migrated to here when WCII was in it's infancy.

I stay in the fray because I don't try to speculate much and have for the most part tried to offer factual info to this group.

What I don't understand and maybe you can help me on is why you think that 2-3 channels is not enough to gain good market share for a Co like ARTT? Each channel can deliver up to 155 MBps which is far more than most Co's need and considering the fact that most systems will be on a Bandwidth on demand basis and never use all that at once, then most small businesses and medium size businesses could be served quite well.

Are you telling me that they don't have enough channels to service the internet market which ARTT has focused on? I think it is plenty based on what most Co's want and will pay for in this ISP business.

This is not a CLEC like WCII and TGNT are and should not be categorized as such. That is not to say that some day the tech won't migrate that way. IP over ATM for voice, data and video is not far off so who knows?

So tell me please, as we are all wanting to know why are 3 channels not enough to compete in this world of ever advancing technology.

It doesn't take a gig (1000 mhz) to be a competitor, nor does it take WCII's 5-7 channels in the 38 Ghz range to be a competitor as technology changes.

With all do respect, please enlighten me!

Ric D.
