Fidelity parent FMR
Corp. has 10.3 stake in
CMGI

NEW YORK, May 10 (Reuters) - FMR
Corp., the parent company of mutual fund
giant Fidelity, has accumulated a 10.3
percent stake in Internet venture capital company CMGI Inc.,
it said in a
regulatory filing Monday.

Also on Monday, Engage Technologies, an Internet
marketing firm that is
majority-owned by CMGI, said it had filed for an initial stock
offering, and a
newspaper report suggested that CMGI may be near to
winning a
well-publicized battle over its best-known investment, the
Web portal Lycos
Inc. (LCOS - news).

Shares of CMGI, based in Andover, Mass., rose $16.6875,
or 8 percent, to
$237.9375, in trade Monday on the Nasdaq stock market.

In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission, Boston-based
FMR said it owns about 4.8 million CMGI common shares.
The filing did give
additional details about the share purchases.

Citing unnamed sources, the Wall Street Journal reported
Monday that USA
Networks Inc. (USAI - news) might abandon its planned
acquisition of Lycos
because it does not believe it can win the support of Lycos
shareholders.

David Wetherell, CMGI's chairman and chief executive, has
sought to prevent
Lycos from being acquired by USA Networks, run by
television mogul Barry
Diller, because he felt the price was too low.

Wetherell resigned from the board of Lycos after the deal
was announced,
saying he would demand a higher price or fight the sale.
The acquisition was
initially valued at between $17 billion and $18 billion.

Shareholder meeting this Thursday the 13th at 10:00 AM. Another day like today for tomorrow would make it even more enjoyable !

CNBC Joe Kernan announced tonight that Fidelity increased its stake in CMGI to around 11 %.

Also, as noted in Jenne's earlier post (#8059) re: AdSmart, CMGI and DW continue to attract top flite executives for upper management positions. I believe DW recruited a top level NBC exec for Magnitude Network.

Good luck
