Mine was running for a few hours, I took it out, it was warm. About the same as the other drive.

The other drive 5400 rpm is just for storage and backing critical data, etc. I also use Zip and CDRW for back-up as well. No tape drive.

The IBM 10.1 Gig 7200 rpm was the original drive that came with the Dell back in Sept 98

I haven't done any speed tests.
