Exact wording from page 6 of Skousen's May, '99 newsletter, in which he added Barrick Gold (ABX) to his simplified stock portfolio:

"In placing Barrick in the simplified portfolio, I'm moving Altair International out, although it remains a buy. Please note that I am committed to Altair ... over the long run, and I still believe it will fulfill its potential. But over the next six to 12 months, which is the time frame I set for my short-term portfolios, we can do better in the precious metals arena with Barrick."

I really don't have a good feel for the root cause of the current drop. Generally I don't consider that any one proponent ... except maybe Warren Buffet or Peter Lynch <grin> ... has the ability, single-handedly, to control the price of a stock. Skousen has been good for our family's investing efforts, but I doubt that he has that much clout in the overall market. (Of course, ALTIF is not very widely known, so his impact *might* be greater????)

IMHO, ALTIF will not really take off until either (a) they get a full-scale jig running and keep it running for a while, or (b) somebody with name recognition buys a significant equity stake in ALTIF or enters into a joint venture with ALTIF, ie "show me the money!".

JSb.

Altair seems to have stopped issuing press releases about
- additional drilling leading to the discovery of even more titanium deposits in Camden..
- Updates on new "post-prefeasibility" studies

Without the booster shots, the stock is looking sickly..

Regards.
