NYRR news Tuesday May 11, 6:06 am Eastern Time Company Press Release NYRR Adds Three Locomotives to its Engine Fleet in Preparation for June 1st Start Date NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1999--New York Regional Rail (OTC Bulletin Board Symbol: 'NYRR') Acting President W. Robert Bentley announced that ''In preparation for the long-awaited June 1st entrance of Norfolk Southern Railway, CSX Transportation and Canadian Pacific Railway into the New York Marketplace, we have purchased three 2400 horsepower general purpose locomotives, and are upgrading our four existing switching engines, as well. ''Our major focus continues to be our preparations for the anticipated substantial increases in rail car-loads into and through the Cross Harbor Railroad system,'' said Mr. Bentley. The Railroad has intensified its efforts to upgrade its trackage, having implemented a concerted campaign to replace ties, rail, spikes and bolts, which are the collective thread that holds this unique rail-freight operation together. At the same time, efforts continue to fortify Cross Harbor's float-bridge and pierage facilities. NYRR's Cross Harbor will play an expansive role in facilitating interstate commerce, by virtue of its imminent access to three Long-Haul, Class 1 Railroads, as opposed to just one (Conrail), with which it currently interchanges, in Northern New Jersey. Its connection in Brooklyn, with the New York & Atlantic Railway (NY&A), the operator of the Long Island Rail Road Freight Division, via the 65th Street Yard and Bay Ridge Branch, for freight flows originating/destined for Long Island, Westchester and Lower New England, solidifies the Cross Harbor's moniker as the Metro Region's Inter-State Rail-freight 'Hub.' New York Regional Rail Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board 'NYRR') is the operator of the New York Cross Harbor Railroad, the metropolitan region's only provider of cross-harbor rail-freight car-floating services, linking New York City, Long Island and New Jersey, with the National Rail-Freight Network.
