Metromedia International Group Inc. (MMG) reported first-quarter revenue from its lawn and garden equipment unit rose to $67.6 million from $60.2 million.

First-quarter revenue from the communications group fell to $7.61 million from $8.96 million.

Metromedia International said it expects to generate significant consolidated losses for the foreseeable future as the communications unit develops and markets its services.

The communication unit's operating loss in Eastern Europe in the first quarter fell to $8.16 million from $13.4 million.

The unit's first-quarter operating loss in China rose to $3.55 million from $3.35 million last year.

Snapper's operating income in the quarter rose to $3.32 million from $864,000.
