Tad,

Rather than recommendations, what if analysts just published their target prices and a risk rating, leaving the investors to decide how much risk they are willing to incur in the pursuit of return?

Do it!!!!!!!!!.. (seriously!)

Regards,

Steve

re: "It appears to me that you're suggesting the equivalent of farmers either sowing or reaping, without giving the crop the chance to grow. This analyst uses the words as they are defined in English: Buy means accumulate it, Hold means retain it, Avoid means don't buy if you don't have it and consider selling it if you do. Strong Buy? in my system, that's when the potential appreciation to the 12-month target is more than 35%.

Rather than recommendations, what if analysts just published their target prices and a risk rating, leaving the investors to decide how much risk they are willing to incur in the pursuit of return?"

As usual, you and I have no difference of opinion of any substance. The difference is entirely semantic in nature and I would never want to be identified as anti-semantic in my views.

Remember, rather than providing guidance for clients, I consider only guidance parameters for myself. My parameters are very simple: If a stock is not a buy, I sell it. If it is what I consider to be the best buy around, I buy it. In, perhaps perverted analyst terminology, I consider AMD to be a "SCREAMING BUY" now.

Warmest regards,

DARBES

Re: "Rather than recommendations, what if analysts just published their target prices and a risk rating, ..."

What form would the "risk rating" take? Would it be a probability of reaching the target level? A beta value? A probability of not losing money?

The whole idea of risk is very complex. I think that the "average Joe" in todays market, having never seen a period like 1966 to 1982, has a very hard time comprehending risk as it relates to equity ownership.

Best wishes,

I2
