This is why I say check your premise: Imagine a community. The majority of the members of the community feel threatened by a neighboring community, and by open vote decide that each member of the community must contribute to build a wall to aid in the defense of the community. In a free society where individual rights are respected there cannot be a vote that could coerce, by majority of a mob, ALL individuals into building that wall. A vote could be taken, a consensus reached, and volunteers would be requested. There is a parallel. It was called the American Revolutionary War.
