PRESS RELEASE

May 8, 1999, Miami: The libel lawsuit brought by The Harris Organization financial services group of Panama against Florida-registered Offshore Business News & Research, Inc. and its principal, David Marchant, is due to be heard in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida (in Miami), starting on May 24. The trial is expected to last for a week.

The lawsuit was filed in April, 1998 after the March, 1998 edition of Offshore Alert newsletter published several allegations against The Harris Organization and/or its founder Marc M. Harris, including allegations relating to money laundering, insolvency, the operation of a Ponzi scheme, fraud and theft of clients' funds.

The Plaintiffs, which comprise two companies registered in the British Virgin Islands and one registered in Nevis, notified the defendants last month that Marc M. Harris had been withdrawn as a witness, notwithstanding the fact that many of the allegations contained in the article were against him personally. No reason was given, although Mr. Marchant believes that Mr. Harris fears he might be arrested should he come to the United States.

The defendants will present evidence at the trial that they believe will be of significant interest to many people in the financial services industry, particularly those operating offshore, and also to investors around the world, particularly those in the United States, where most of the alleged victims of The Harris Organization live.

Neither Plaintiff nor Defendants have asked for a continuance, so there is a reasonable chance that the trial will start on May 24. Only a scheduling conflict within the court system is likely to delay the proceedings.

If anyone is interested in attending the trial or covering it as a
journalist or just requires additional information, please contact David Marchant in Miami on 305-372-6267 or send an e-mail to
