Exodus Plans to Have 21 Sites Worldwide by End of 1999

Will Bring Total Gross Square Footage to 1.3 Million

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1999--In an effort to meet increasing global customer demand, Exodus Communications(tm), Inc. (NASDAQ: EXDS - news) today announced it plans to open nine additional Internet Data Centers (IDCs) and three server hosting facilities by the end of this year. Along with the currently nine operational IDCs, this will bring the total number of Exodus(tm) sites to 21 worldwide. With the additional centers, Exodus will have approximately 1.3 million gross square feet of global Data Center facilities.

Worldwide Presence

Forrester Research predicts that the hosting market will reach $14.6 billion by 2003. Exodus continues to see robust demand for its services from companies across a broad base of industries as well as geographic regions. Exodus currently has nine existing Internet Data Centers located in the San Francisco (3), Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C. (2) metropolitan areas. In addition to the second Washington, D.C. IDC opening (see related press release issued today), Exodus plans to open three new IDCs by the late spring. These IDCs will be located in Chicago, London and Seattle. By the end of 1999, Exodus plans to open six additional IDCs and three international server hosting facilities. This will bring the total number of Exodus sites worldwide to 21. Locations of the additional sites will be announced later this year.
