If i had taken a beating like HP, SGI and CPQ have in the market from Sun I would start a venture fund, mutual fund and whatever fund to try to keep some interest in this dead on arrival chip which its co-creater HP has even decided not to use in its (mid range servers).

Looks like DELL, HP, SGI, CPQ and Morgan Stanley are backing the Merced IA-64. Seems Sun & SCO will be porting their OS's over to it.

This is standard operating procedure for encouraging software developers to support a new architecture. The link you pointed to is a press release rewrite that contains no news at all.

It's hardly news that HP, DELL, SGI and CPQ are still planning to build IA64 machines when the chip comes out, although the article does mention that both HP and Compaq/DEC have gone to Plan B because of the delays.

It's also hardly news that Sun & SCO will be porting their OS's over to it, since they both announced their intention to port in late 97 or early 98, and also announced months ago that those OS's are already running on Intel's Merced simulator.

So what else is new, James? Got any more vapor-based FUD links?

Regards,
