Not a gambling operation, has proprietary system for handling same as cash transactions for gamblers on-line and from home. Also spreading out into other uses for this technology. GO BETT! ********* To: Jorjenzak (2049 ) From: ocmayor Tuesday, May 11 1999 11:37AM ET Reply # of 2050 Biggest news in BETT history just released!!!!!! enjoy the ride guys!!!!! eConnect Announces Acquisition of Rogel Technologies Who has Recently Licensed a Unique Secure Email System to JVC for Resale by JVC to Pacific Rim Countries LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 1999-- This License Will Generate a Projected $20 Million in Earnings Over 3 Years for eConnect eConnect (OTC BB:BETT), has acquired Rogel Technologies, a developer and provider of Internet-based services. eConnect projects that the acquisition will add at least one cent per share to its previous EPS estimates for this year, and significantly more in future years. Rogel Technologies will continue to operate with its current staff and location, as a wholly owned subsidiary of eConnect and has just completed development of a secure mail system for JVC, a multibillion Japanese corporation famous for the VHS recorder, to be used for JVC's "Benefit On Line" service. Rogel Technologies will provide the secure system under a multi-year contract. JVC will resell the service to Pacific Rim companies. The system is design to allow the safe exchange of email and documents over public phone lines in a secure fashion, thereby protecting sensitive data, and preventing corporate espionage. JVC will offer the service to clients on a licensing basis, with license fees based on the number of employees within the client's firm. Rogel Technologies will receive a significant percent of each license fee. Rogel Technologies's multiyear earnings from the contract is estimated at $20 million. Rogel Technologies is also developing Merchant Response Software (MRS) to enable Internet merchants to securely receive payments from consumers, following the model eConnect has defined for same-as-cash transactions to support purchases, wagering, etc. The eConnect model relies on PERFECT transactions (Personal Encrypted Remote Financial EleCtronic Transactions). This will eliminate problems and security risks that merchants and consumers face today. Credit card, ATM card and Smart card payments to web merchants will bypass the Internet with financial card data whose magnetic strip is read by simple home and office equipment and then sent by modem over a second phone line to the eConnect host for bank processing. Once available, MRS can be downloaded by merchants for free from the eConnect PERFECT portal site to be provided by Rogel Technologies. This site will be accessed by merchants signing on to receive PERFECT transactions and by consumers who are interested in ordering PERFECT equipment and finding out who the Internet merchants are that the consumer can pay by bypassing the Internet with their private bank and personal data. Credit cards are presently supported. ATM debit cards, and Smart Cards will be supported later this year. eConnect's PayMaster(www.hpos.com) is an example of PERFECT hardware. The eConnect SLICK, a simple keyboard and the eConnect PocketPay, a wireless terminal in your pocket, are in development. Initial testing of a same-as-cash PERFECT transaction using the MRS software will begin this summer with several Internet merchants, including two other subsidiaries of eConnect, 777WINS.com and eSportsbet. The system will be used to securely move consumer's funds from their credit/debit card account, to their gaming account at these Internet gaming providers. An eConnect company spokesperson said, "We are continuing to lay the foundation for PERFECT same-as-cash transactions, which will enable the on line use of ATM cards and Smart Cards for small purchases, bill paying, account transfers, and wagering (where allowed by law). We now have the necessary elements in place: The eConnect bank host sits in the middle of the system, to receive, authorize and settle the incoming transactions; the SLICK and PayMaster to send the transaction from various environments, and the MRS software at the merchant's web site, to complete the circuit. We expect to run a variety of demonstration systems and transactions this summer, and be aggressively signing up Internet merchants and distributing software before the start of the Christmas season."
