Sounds like the curse is descending on you boyz, too

We tend to follow the US a couple of years behind in this kind of stuff a bit before Europe.

Stock market participation has increased dramatically over this decade through a series of demutualisations and privitizations. This also took the share of resource stocks on the market from 37% of capitalization in 1990 to 15%now. Now online brokers, warrants etc. etc. is taking off. Trades have fallen to about $A25-29 ($US17-19) for small trades online. Another driving force is compulsory superannuation - currently about to rise to 9% of income minimum must be contributed by the employer to a fund. Individuals can manage these funds themselves if they like - kind of like an IRA. The government retirement pension is very low ($A160 a week - same as unemployment benefit) and means tested.
