<Do people actually use it?> That's the bottom line, and in fact hypermart is a major contributor to Go2Net traffic - about 3500000 users a month in March99. Now that the combined freehosting assets are 50% larger now than back in March, the traffic figures should be that much higher too. <Do the businesses hosted there feel it bring them worthwhile traffic?> The risk to businesses hosted there is nil, as its as hosting is free or about $80 a year ad-free. Much of the promotion for a website can be done using search engines if there is a distinct niche that website covers. Further traffic promotion tools would be a good way to leverage the hosting business. At this point Maybe i should ask if you get what a free hosting service is? This a competitor to Geocities, only much better implemented. For example, the URL's are easier to remember and about 30000 of the combined freehosted members actually have their own domain name. My guess is that these 30000 are the most serious about atarcting traffic to their site, and probably have more traffic than the other members. Both types of users are growing fast. Maybe join Hypermart yourself, run a site and see how it works? PArticularly once you want to sell a product on your site, the e-commerce enhancements being rolled out for hypermart will come in handy. <WIll hypermart shine on set top boxes?> That depends on their rolling out audio-video streaming, mostly. And integrating audio-video content into a searchable format somehow - that's what the techs are hired for, to integrate Go2net with these leading edge services.
