Few day old news on CIEN:

Ciena <CIEN.O> says Bell Atlantic using its DWDM

LINTHICUM, Md., May 5 (Reuters) - Ciena Corp. said
Wednesday that Bell Atlantic Corp. <BEL.N> will deploy Ciena's
network capacity-increasing technology in its core network.
Linthicum, Md.-based Ciena, a pioneer of dense wave
division multiplexing technology (DWDM), said it believed the
move is the first time a regional Baby Bell had deployed the
technology for revenue-bearing customer traffic.
Ciena shares were up $2.25, to $25.625, in afternoon trade
on the Nasdaq stock market after the announcement.
The deployment of DWDM, which splits the light that travels
across fiber optic networks into multiple channels, each with
the same carrying capacity as a full fiber, is also a further
development of Bell Atlantic's plans to get into the
long-distance market.
DWDM is frequently used in long-distance networks to
multiply capacity without laying in additional fiber.
The Baby Bells are currently blocked from offering
long-distance services until they satisfy regulators that they
have sufficiently opened their local networks to competition.
Ciena said its equipment is now carrying live traffic in
Bell Atlantic's network. The New York-based Baby Bell has
deployed Ciena's DWDM between two central offices in Freehold
and New Brunswick, N.J.

Moosie I still haven't left Vegas yet. Maybe the end of the week. So many things to do and it all takes time. But I will have my pole in the water by the end of the month.:-) MarkC
