ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1999--Black Americans of Achievement Inc. (NNOTC:BAOA) announces that it has prepared its future home offices of CallAtlanta Inc., the company's wholly owned call center subsidiary, located at 555 Whitehall Street in honor of President Clinton as he tours Atlanta's Empowerment Zone today. A large banner stating "Future Site of CallAtlanta Inc., A Collaboration Between Private Industry and the Atlanta Empowerment Zone" hangs from BAOA's freshly cleaned building. The company, which has been approved to receive $3.5 million in financing from the Atlanta Empowerment Zone Corporation, has $104 million in purchase orders spanning a 36-month period for BAOA's call center businesses. BAOA purchased and is renovating this 38,600 square foot facility located near Atlanta University and the new Atlanta Dome. The building, when refurbished for CallAtlanta Inc., will accommodate up to 600 employees when fully operational. Through the Federal Empowerment Zone and Atlanta Empowerment Zone Programs, BAOA has been approved to receive $3.5 million in financing, assistance with hiring and training from the Georgia Department of Labor, and city, state and federal tax incentives. This program calls for hiring people within the Atlanta Empowerment Zone and in BAOA's case; the company will be building a local high technology skill base centered on telecommunications. CallAtlanta Inc. employees will place outbound calls for major telecommunications companies to offer analog and digital cellular products, and reduced long-distance telephone services. Future outsourced teleservices programs may entail conducting opinion polls, political campaigns and credit card products and providing customer support services. The Empowerment Zone Program is designed to encourage growth in undeserved communities, such as rural areas, inner cities and Native American reservations. The Clinton administration created the zones in 1994 to seed economic development with $250 million in federal cash grants and tax breaks to be awarded over a 10-year period. The first zones were awarded to Atlanta, Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, New York and Philadelphia. Additional zones were added last year. Black Americans of Achievement Inc. (BAOA), an African American-controlled business, is an affinity marketing company uniquely located in high growth, untapped urban communities. The Company's core business activity is to implement inbound and outbound teleservices programs for large corporations and peripheral business is to develop proprietary entertainment products for distribution through its teleservice business centers. As a minority-based business, BAOA's strategy is to capitalize on the Federal Empowerment Zone Program, which gives the company access to low-interest loans, job training assistance, and local, state and federal tax credits to build multiple call centers throughout the United States. The company's first urban teleservice business, CallAtlanta Inc., has been approved for a $3.5 million, 10-year loan from the Atlanta Empowerment Zone Corporation chaired by Mayor Bill Campbell. Other Federal Empowerment Zones targeted by the company include Harlem, Los Angeles, and Oakland.
