Looksmart to launch online talk radio show
(Editors: story is embargoed for publication in Wednesday
newspaper editions)
SAN FRANCISCO, May 12 (Reuters) - The Internet service
Looksmart on Wednesday will announce plans to enter the online
radio space with a daily talk radio show devoted mostly to
Internet topics, such as Internet stocks.
The company, one of the major Internet portals offering
search services and other content, said it has acquired PM
Media, the company that broadcast the Internet's first talk
radio show in 1996. It said the show will be available to all
Internet users, and will not require them to download any
special software.
Looksmart's radio show will be hosted by Mike Walter, who
founded PM Media's World Wide Web radio; and will have a format
that combines general human interest subjects with content
geared toward Internet users. Topics planned include Internet
news, search tips, celebrity interviews, horiscopes and Web
site reviews.
The show will be launched later this month, Looksmart said.
The announcement comes one day after Yahoo! Inc. <YHOO.O>,
the leading Internet portal, launched a round-the-clock radio
service featuring a variety of music.
Looksmart says it will consider expanding its show beyond
the one hour a day format, if it proves successful.
