3Com Corporation Delivers Converged Solutions At NetWorld+Interop '99 in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1998--Global networking leader 3Com
Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS) is highlighting innovative networking solutions for new growth
markets, including LAN telephony, voice over IP, wireless connectivity, broadband
networking and handheld computing at the NetWorld+Interop show here in Las Vegas. These
solutions underscore the company's mission to bring information and communications to all
people at anytime, anywhere and support 3Com's vision for converged networks, which
enable customers to integrate their voice, video and data over common networks.

At the conference this week, 3Com will be making announcements on the following:

--Wireless Connectivity Roadmap and New Solutions

3Com is disclosing the first steps in its aggressive wireless connectivity roadmap, including a
range of comprehensive and innovative wireless connectivity solutions, designed to provide
simple and reliable access to information when and where people need it. Also at the show,
3Com is announcing the 3Com(R)AirConnect(TM) wireless LAN solution for enterprise
customers. 3Com's 11Mbps wireless LAN will enable organizations to extend their wired
networks with fast, convenient and reliable access to information, applications and network
service - anywhere in the enterprise.

--Transcend Network Management for Palm Computing Platform

3Com is announcing that it intends to extend the Transcend(R) family of network management
applications to the Palm Computing platform. By adding the leading handheld product to the
network manager's toolkit, 3Com continues its strategy of simplifying network
administration, providing greater flexibility to troubleshoot and maintain critical systems from
anywhere in the enterprise. Synchronized with the Transcend Enterprise Manager inventory
database, Transcend management tools on the Palm computing platform will automatically
download network device data to help administrators more quickly resolve problems and
perform updates. --Computer Associates and 3Com to Collaborate for Network Management
Integration

Industry leaders 3Com and Computer Associates (CA) announce that they will collaborate on
delivering integrated network management capabilities to their mutual customers. The
integration will enable enterprise customers to better manage 3Com network equipment in
environments running Unicenter TNG, CA's flagship enterprise management, and 3Com's
Transcend(R) Network Control Services, providing faster troubleshooting, increased network
uptime and greater staff efficiency.

--PathBuilder(TM) S400 WAN Convergence Switch

3Com is introducing the PathBuilder S400 WAN Convergence Switch, an all-in-one wide
area network (WAN) system that integrates virtual private networks (VPNs), voice/data
convergence and multi-protocol routing. The new product is part of 3Com's family of
switched WAN platforms that address the expanding needs of enterprises for solutions that
support e-business, call centers and other converged network applications. The PathBuilder
S400 switch is ideally suited for deployment at large remote sites and smaller central sites of
enterprises. The PathBuilder S400 switch is also integral to 3Com's growing relationships
with managed network service providers who can deploy the new solution along with 3Com's
other PathBuilder and NETBuilder WAN switches and routers to deliver a new generation of
capabilities to enterprise customers.

--VPNs Go Wireless: 3Com Adds Tunneling To CDMA Data Networks

3Com Corporation has enhanced its multi-service network infrastructure equipment to enable
the deployment of wireless virtual private network (VPN) services. The Interworking
Function (IWF) within 3Com's Total Control(R) multi-service access platform now supports
the IETF-standard Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) and the Microsoft(R) Point-to-Point
Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). Secure tunneling support in the IWF enables wireless service
providers running Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)-based data networks to expand the
reach of business customers' wired VPNs to mobile workers who need to access remote data
at times when there is no phone jack handy.

--3Com Announces High-Speed, Packet-Switched CDMA Platform

A packet-switched wireless network platform from 3Com Corporation will soon deliver
unprecedented wireless data access speeds and new network economies to service providers
and their mobile subscribers. The 64-kbps wireless module for the 3Com Total Control
multi-service access platform is scheduled to ship in the fourth quarter to wireless
infrastructure OEMs, as well as to service providers who wish to offer wireless
Internet/intranet access services to their customers. 3Com Exhibit Highlights Innovative
