Sam, thanks. The speed improvement over serial is impressive...

Serial Connection (115kbps, using Cameraid) 64 seconds
SanDisk USB Imagemate 2.2 seconds

I'm wondering if anyone on this thread follows IVAC? It seems like a well managed little company, with lots of cash. Unfortunately, nobody is buying their sputtering systems due to the overall mess in the DD sector. The company is selling at just about book value and is trying to expand their business into FPD mfg.

It seems to me that sooner or later their business will come back, its not like nobody is makng DD's, its just that nobody is making money on them so new investment is very low.

Opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sam,

<<On USB and digital cameras, Clik competitor Sandisk's solution for file transfer, the USB ImageMate>>

Thanks for that. Interesting stuff. As it happens the camera the writer was using is a Nikon Coolpix 950. Mine is an earlier model (300) which does not offer removable flash but uses fixed memory. We are, unfortunately, slave to the serial port provided and do indeed, have to wait for over a minute per pic, for a download. So downloading pics becomes an after hours activity along with back-up routines, defrag, etc. A royal pain really and the USB solution the author talks about with the SanDisk card reader is a big improvement. I was also stunned by the vast improvement the Nikon 950 offers over my 300. Looks like digital cameras have their own Moore's Law.

Best,
Stitch
