The recent (or forthcoming) prospectuses make interesting reading. I went through NPNP and COVD, with RTHM on deck. I'm not an expert, but this is greatly helping my learning curve.

I have some more for you:

CAIS Internet (IPO soon)
Concentric (CNCX)
e.spire (ESPI)
Intermedia (ICIX)
MGC Communications (MGCX)

(I'm not positive about those stock symbols)

I'm a bit confused about Coppermine. I think they are an equipment maker because both NAS and Rhythms are their customers. That's one of those things I can't quite understand. Also, it's hard to figure outs some of the relationships between the providers. Concentric, e.g., seems to sell Covad DSLs, but what service is each party providing? Isn't Covad just packaging together some DSL equipment bought from the equipment makers? Why can't Concentric do the same thing. In other words, what is the value-added by the DSL providers?

Doughboy.

Most of the companies you listed do not make their own equipment. So you could go down the food chain and buy the electronic contract manufacturers who should benefit regardless.

I found the link below from the Aware site to have an excellent overview of the key DSL players and delineations: aware.com
