. . . . .LONG PORTFOLIO'S WERE BIG WINNERS TODAY. . . The "Original" Long Port 1.0 was up nearly 3 percent today. . .now up 155 percent since Dec. 9, 1998. The "April Alternative" Long Port 1.1 was up 1.46 percent today for a total gain of 170 percent since Dec. 9, 1998. The Long Port 2.0 was up 2 percent today for a total gain of 35.24 percent since March 24, 1999. . . . . . . . HIGHLIGHTS . . . . . . . APRIL 1.1 . .BDE was the biggest winner. . up 5/8 [+14.29 pct] at 5. . . . . . . . . . .NBTY was up 21/32 [+10.88pct] at 6 11/16 . . . . . . . . . .MCD was up 2 7/16 [+6.17 pct] at 41 15/16 Long 1.0. . .BCST up 14 7/16 [+12.66 pct] at 128 1/2 . . . . . . . . . .GCTY up 12 9/16 [+12.14 pct] at 116 1/16 Long 2.0. . .OMX up 1 1/16 [+10.43 pct] at 11 1/4 + + + + NOTE: These winners were nearly all beaten down most of the year, then suddenly popped up on no real news. . . probably mostly short covering. . .Office Max moved some on Office Depot earnings report. McDonalds moved up sharply despite the stores being closed in China due to protests by angry citizens. NBTY has been showing pretty steady gains this past week or so. . .could be that it is finally setting up to make some moves. . .had news of credit rating upgrade last week, but doubt if that could move a stock with as big a float as NBTY has. Wondering if ROSI might be next in line. . . in the "grand plan" of cyclicals and overlooked and other stocks that mutual fund managers put into the big funds but never amounted to anything. . . .
