chaz, regarding ATHM:

If ATHM has a lock on the cable MSO HFC broadband access to the home, at the end of the day, it's effectively proprietary. If you go to AT&T, Comcast, Cox and TWX (I am assuming the merger of RR and ATHM is effective here) and sign up for broadband access, you will have to sign up for ATHM's service. Whether you sign up for AOL or not is irrelevant, you still have to pay for ATHM service. Sort of like a royalty payment.
