News Release: June 17, 1999 08:46 VHA and Perot Systems Sign Agreement for IT Services DALLAS, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- VHA, Inc. and Perot Systems Corporation (NYSE: PER) signed a long-term outsourcing agreement to provide information technology applications on a timeshare basis to VHA member hospitals and their affiliated physicians. The agreement will allow physician practices and physician contracting organizations to take advantage of emerging IT solutions without having to make significant investments in hardware, software, or personnel. Through the use of VHAseCURE.net, VHA's healthcare network utility, VHA and Perot Systems have established access to a data center support service of on-demand applications. As a part of the agreement with Perot Systems, VHA also announced today the launch of PhysicianLINK Online, an exclusive portal of healthcare information and services for physicians affiliated with VHA member organizations. The initial focus of the new initiative will be on the MedicVision(R) application for physician practice management, such as scheduling, registration, financial reporting, and insurance claims processing. The associated costs for the physician or medical group using the application are based solely on use; essentially, a timeshare approach to specific information technology systems. Compared to the costs of purchasing and managing such services, this arrangement could save a healthcare provider as much as 50 percent over the cost of purchasing and operating the system themselves. "This agreement is an integral part of our strategy to expand our portfolio of IT solutions and serves an even broader range of our membership," said Rick Ratliff, VHA's vice president of Healthcare Information Technologies. "It allows smaller hospitals and physician groups to access technology they might not otherwise be able to afford. Perot Systems has the experience we required in planning and implementing this timeshare concept of information services to support current and future technology solutions from VHA."
