James, this is the relevant sequence:

Neo:Gustave, I think that it is a matter of different circumstances rather than hypocrisy,
although I do think that Germany was precipitous in encouraging the devolution of
Yugoslavia. Kosovo is a region sacred to the Serbs, and there is a fear in the surrounding
countries of a Greater Albania. Plus, it is one thing to dissolve a union that is rather
artificial and not even a hundred years old, such as Yugoslavia, and another to cut a large
piece of territory out of an historic nation... I think it is true that the Administration
wouldn't mind an independent Kosovo, but I hope they see the folly of such a course
soon...

GJ:Neocon,
Don't you think that cutting Germany in half and cutting its historical capital Berlin
in half in 1947 was not a much wilder folly?? Yet, it's been done --and it lasted 50 years!
I don't say that such radical operations are desirable but I think we should take care of the
people first! Remember: Kosovo is the homeland for 1.8 million Albanians. BTW, I think
that Scotland was much closer to ''folly'' than Kosovo! An independent Scotland in the
midst of a err... Disunited Kingdom?! The Pandora's box containing all the nationalistic
evils of Europe is wide open... How do you close it?

Neo:Gustave, I think that the partition of Germany was an unfortunate event, but it was
consequent upon a major war and the creation of two military blocs opposing one another.
Without the "balance of terror", it would never have lasted, and it is a relief that it is over
with. If I did not believe that an independent Kosovo would lead to more mischief than it
is worth, I might agree with you. By the way, I think that Scottish nationalism is idiotic...

Yaacov:I think that Scottish
nationalism is idiotic...>>
Why idiotic?

Neo:A sense of historic pride is fine, but there is no reason to threaten the political and
economic health of the U.K. just because one is inclined to get into pissing contests with
the English. At some point, people have to agree that boundaries are settled, and will be
unsettled only for exceptional causes, or the next thing you know there will be civil strife,
or at least administrative turmoil, all over the place...

IMHO this war is carrying a huge price tag for the U.S., not only in $$ but more in the loss of political power in Russian and Chinese relations.

Granted the Chinese government are using the Embassy bombing as a way to politically turn the public against the U.S., away from their own domestic problems and military espionage. They are also trying to gain political leverage; the U.S. now "owes them one".

Net result is we have moved back into the cold-war.
