opalapril,

I don't know about XOMA, but
you are correct in ICOS. I bought
into ICOS beginning in 1996 (my initial
price was $8). The stock was recommended
to me from an older guy that worked with
Rathmann at 3M in I believe the late 1950's.
He told me that he could see the guy was a genius
and a class guy. That older guy has made a fortune
in both AMGN and ICOS.

Opal,

I see no point in arguing with you if your going to confuse the issues with facts. <g>

<<Xoma doesn't zoom and they may have an important product in the very near future>>

Opal,

I will concede I picked a bad example to make my point. But, in all seriousness how about all the other (potentially) great biotechs that aren't zooming. I'll make it a short list:

Isis Pharmacy, Vical, Inhale Therapeutics, Ligand, Vertex Pharmaceutical and many others.

In most cases the above companies have important products in Phase III trials, but still no zoom.

I propose the following experiment. I will change my name to Bill Gates and buy 10% of Isis Pharmacy and we'll see what happens.

Uh, Errr,.....can you loan me $25M?

opalapril, my source for the number of institutions holding ICOS is wallstreetcity.com. Type in the symbol and select "Report: Company Profile" from the drop-down menu. It says that 109 institutions hold 19.03% of the shares, and there was a 3-month net purchase of 4.07 million shares.

I enjoyed your critical comparison between XOMA and ICOS. It sounds like you may have a read a press release or two. :)
