Doug, thanks for bringing this item to my attention. I'd lost sight of some of the developments in this area since being preoccupied with other matters. The 802.3ab, which specifies operation out to 100 meters on the floor, while divorced from the 802.3z standards work, which only specifies out to 25 meters of distance to the closet connection, is a whopping fourfold increase to the full distances allowed by the EIA Cat 5 spec: 100 meters. That's really saying something about the company's achievement at the Gigabit operating speed, given the number of anomalies and electrical environmentals it needs to get over at that speed. I don't know how successful the company will be on the impetus of this alone, at this time, since very few desktops, if any, can accept such speeds readily. Perhaps specialized workstations, but not the run of the mill Intel inside box. That's why I found it a bit curious, to begin with. 1000Mb or GB services are usually relegated to the server farm, or the riser, where top speeds are absolutely essential in high capacity environments, but these speeds are highly uncharacteristic when speaking about individual desktops. Like I said, at this time maybe for CADD and modeling workstations, but not the standard office automation suite.
