when they covered pc use in the office the cnbc presentation mentioned only 10% of capability is used. Most of us used ours for a local program and the rest was always from the main frames. What a waste of bucks.....

The big boys figured give them the capability and the ideas will follow. Well most of folks aren't trained and don't have time or take time to create uses for the pc on their desk. Many ideas that came up were great but applied to everyone using the system on the main frame. Last I heard they were rethinking this issue...

p.s. UNIX boxes crash too, I should know as I've been a UNIX developer for 8 years on HP-UX, SunOS, Solaris and friends.

I was comparing a pre-built DELL box versus a Sun workstation. Quality is equal if not better in the components and you have a wider variety of replacement parts at cheaper prices.

It's obvious your argument is wrong since 80% of the corporate world runs Windows 95/98/NT on the desktop. It's the most cost effective and gives workers the most productive set of office applications (period). Sun and other UNIX vendors dropped the ball on the desktop, and they'll soon see that on the bottom line. SGI sees the trend and as a result their latest workstations are N-WAY NT machines.

A question for the thread. Let me preface it by saying I think both MSFT and SUNW will prosper in the future and am invested in both.

The question is: What are you currently using to view this web page? Please list computer, model and make, OS and browser.

I am using a Dell Pentium 200, win 98 and IE 4.
