How about the national debt clock? brillig.com
Remember "It's the economy stupid!" Now the White House says
we have a surplus while the debt doubles!

This slight of hand has fooled the public into a spending
frenzy. AMERICA THE LAND OF DEBT with negative savings!

We will pay for this. The bill always comes due!

"how the US plans to pay off its huge trade deficit"

You may be right, but I don't think the trade deficit has to be "paid off." My understanding is that the trade deficit means we sell less to foreigners than they sell to us. Which is another way of saying that they buy more dollars than we buy of their currency.

The trade deficit will become balanced when foreigners unload their dollars, with obvious implications of the dollar exchange rate.
