Barbara: Interesting how perceptions change - I spent the better part of my formative years hating every visiting star baseball player that walked onto Connie Mack's finely groomed GRASS field - with the intent of crushing my Phillies - and in the '50s, even the 220 hitters wreaked havoc on my home team. We didn't win many, but we outfought them all in the myriad of bench-clearing brawls I witnessed.
Frustration has its dubious rewards.
Of course, when July rolled around and it was time for the AllStar game, all of those despised enemies of the "Fightin' Phils" became my friends and heroes-
At least for one day.
My tormentors-turned-friends now battled the even more despised American Leaguers - the consumate evil known as Mickey, Whitey, Rocky, Boog & Brooks.
I spent so much time fearing Mays, Musial, Aaron, Clemente, Banks - and of course, everybody with the word "Dodgers" on their shirt (and I remember every player by name position and damage) that it blurred the thrill of watching their collective and immense talent.
Lyle Alzado is upstairs now (although many Q-Backs would debate that conclusion). It's too late to tell him how much us enemy fans enjoyed his game.
I trust that now I will begin to look at Joe Theismann in a whole new light.
Thanks to FNTN, it's AllStar time, once again.

Only The Best,
Wally
