<Sony Music is not the same as Sony Electronics.> But they are both owned by the same company even after there recent reorganization. sony.com (click on music and electronics).

<It is entirely possible that Sony's music player may employ our MicroOS > I would agree since Sony has not come out with its "Digital Walkman" yet.

"Sony has talked of plans to bring out its own take on the
'digital Walkman' market, reportedly within the year. The
device would use Sony's own Memory Stick technology for
added storage capacity instead of the industry standard
Compact Flash memory storage technology, in part due to
Sony's concerns over music piracy."

However, we have not read anywhere about MicroOS and the Sony Memory Stick? My guess is MicroOS will work with Memory Stick since it is flash memory.

However, if Sony decides to make a player for Microsoft then it is entirely possible that Microsoft would choose an operating system other than MicroOS. Microsoft may have an operating system for flash memory too.
