Mass Storage Offering

Partnership Allows Leading Distributor to Expand its Mass Storage Offering

SAN JOSE, Calif./WICHITA, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1999--

The MetaStor line is a natural extension of the current Bell Microproducts position as a leading
storage solutions provider. Bell Microproducts will now offer complete solutions for both
storage area networking (SAN) and NAS applications.

"Companies are realizing that data is one of their most important assets," said Phil Roussey,
SR VP of Computer products marketing for Bell Microproducts. "SAN solutions and NAS
devices have emerged as state-of-the-art methods of safeguarding and managing these assets.
The MetaStor family will enable Bell Microproducts to offer the highest quality products
available in the industry as customers employ storage solutions to store and protect their data,"
said Roussey. MetaStor Storage Solutions Expands its Reseller Base

distribution agreement will help MetaStor Storage Solutions develop new reseller partners for
the product line," Reed added.

Superior Court rules with school over LSI
San Jose Mercury News - Published Tuesday, May 11, 1999

LSI Logic Corp. lost another round in court Monday in its bid to remove a neighboring
school from an industrial zone in Santa Clara where the company uses toxic chemicals to
produce semiconductors.

Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Leslie Nichols ruled the city was on firm
ground in issuing a conditional use permit to the Granada Islamic School on Scott
Boulevard, across from LSI's research and development facility.

The judge also upheld an environmental report, which concluded that children would not
be exposed to undue risks by going to school near LSI's facility.

''Everything that could be argued has been argued from Day One,'' Nichols said of the
conflict, which stretches back to 1993, when the city council approved the school on a
4-3 vote. Lawsuits followed almost immediately, first over whether an environmental
study should be done and now over whether the environmental study was done
properly.

Attorneys for the city and the Muslim Community Association, which operates the
school and a nearby mosque, said the semiconductor industry has an exemplary safety
record and that children and the elderly are vulnerable to toxic emissions nearly
anywhere in Santa Clara, which is filled with high-tech industry.

The school has spent $1 million to enable the building to be sealed off in case of a toxic
emission, and officials say all the children can get inside within a minute.

But LSI's attorney says the precautions are not as effective as the school has made them
out to be. And placing 400 schoolchildren next to a place that uses toxic chemicals is
inviting disaster, the company said. LSI does not object to the mosque.

''We think it's morally wrong to place small schoolchildren in the middle of an industrial
zone where toxic, corrosive and flammable chemicals are used and transported on a daily
basis,'' LSI spokesman Kevin Brett said.

LSI's position has been supported by the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group and the
Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce.
