Considering that this was one area that 3dfx might be looking to get into:

Seems strange to me that Nintendo would pick a custom PowerPC chip. While I know that the graphics capabilities of the PowerPC family is greater than that of the Pentiums, will it have enough horsepower to compete against Sony?

Plaz, I looked a little more closely at the Mercury benchmarks. The 200MHz they listed for the TNT2U was in the "memory" column. So the chip itself, while almost certainly overclocked anyway, probably wasn't clocked all the way to 200MHz. I'd guess the chip was at about 175MHz, since that's about the range where the TNT2Us seem to fail in the reviews I've seen.
