I share the same frustration working at a technical education center where propective students think the world revolves around Redmond.

It's rather sad these people buy into MSFT's marketing hype and have no clue as to what there really is out there. They don't ever bother to learn about anything else and think they will land these high paying network engineering jobs with 4 letters - MCSE.

I tend to call these people "point and click engineers" or MS(P&C)Es.

Makes me worry that if this continues, in a few years, a majority of the technically trained systems people will have a thorough understanding of MS products and NOTHING else. Or as someone put it today, these people will disappear into the fog of Internet Wave 3.

You know, sooner or later people will start hearing about NOVL. I remember last year you couldn't find an article in a trade magazine let alone the regular news about Novell. Just today I was reading Network World (http://www.nwfusion.com) and found several articles and 2 editorials about Novell and their products. Only 1 article on NT 5 and no opinion pieces about MSFT. I'm bronzing this issue as a milestone.
