Gene/OT: QCOM, QWST, BRCM, CSCO, VTSS, MFNX - this sector is smoking. Looks like MSFT is following Allen's lead to some extent. Should bode well for their earnings; a nice little bonus.

I don't think these investments have the same rate of return that Micorsoft's current core business has, so they will (in themselves) slow Microsoft's rate of return. What Microsoft is doing is buying markets for Windows CE. So far CE is a disappointment, so time will tel whether Microsoft buy-ins pay for themselves.
