if a country doesn't have the courage to risk its troops' lives all it can do is destroy and destroy and destroy and leave a bloody mess in the end - declaring 'victory' somehow

Somehow I seem to remember that after years of fighting a ground war as well as a strategic bombing campaign, Germany was effectively left a bloody mess. (With a lot of US and allied casualties to boot).

How do you think we would have fought WWII had we possessed the weaponry then that we currently have now??

War is the science of controlled and focused violence. As George C. Scott stated in the opening monologue of "Patton", "Nobody every won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for HIS country" (paraphrased).

Making war is a lot of work. And the US has generally been inclined to "Work smarter, not harder..."

We also like to fight our wars overseas rather than on our home-turf. Never underestimate the value of having ocean front property on either coast... :0)

Ron
