"uptime" in days is not relative in a desktop environment since typically these machines are shutdown at day end anyways. I will admit that UNIX OS kernel/services are more fault resistant by design (modular) versus the monolithic style of Win98 and unfortunately WinNT. Uptime is important for server environments, and like I've said before, UNIX is a much better server OS.

As a developer tell me that you would choose UNIX desktop tools for development over the ones available on Win98/NT. Take Java for example, the best commerical tools are Inprise JBuilder, Visual Cafe, and IBM Visual Age. NONE OF WHICH ARE AVAILABLE ON SOLARIS Your choice on Solaris is JavaSoft Workshop (uggh doesn't even support Swing) or using 'vi' + command line or using 'xemacs'.

Therefore I'll trade shutting down my desktop every night for access to the more productive office/development toolset avaiable on Win98/NT anyday ; along with cheaper cost of ownership.
