USinternetworking Names U S WEST as Exclusive Distributor of E-Commerce Managed Applications in 14-State Region
Businesses Gain Fast Access to Best-of-Breed Applications Previously Out of Their Reach
ANNAPOLIS, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1999-- USinternetworking, Inc. (Nasdaq:USIX - news), the first and leading Application Service Provider (ASP), today announced it has entered a strategic partnership with U S WEST, through which U S WEST is the exclusive distributor of USi's iMAP(SM) e-commerce solutions within 14 Western and Midwestern states. Through this alliance, businesses can receive outsourced end-to-end solutions that include implementation, integration, hosting, management and support of leading applications by BroadVision and Microsoft. The iMAP services enable businesses to quickly and affordably implement high-end turnkey e-commerce solutions for a flat monthly fee, without having to build their technological infrastructure.
''We are enthusiastic about our expanded relationship with U S WEST, one of the most progressive and innovative next-generation data providers,'' said Christopher R. McCleary, Chairman and CEO of USinternetworking. ''The strength of their distribution channels is key in delivering USi's revolutionary iMAP solutions quickly to businesses within the 14-state region.''
The announcement coincides with the debut of U S WEST Hosting Solutions and the U S WEST Business Partner Program. ''USi and U S WEST have teamed to provide clients with high-end, e-commerce finished services to complete U S WEST's Hosting Solutions product and services portfolio,'' said Eric Bozich, Vice President of Internet Services Development at U S WEST. ''Because of the large up-front capital expenditures associated with purchasing and licensing software, and the technical staffing requirements of installing and supporting it, leading business applications like e-commerce have been out of reach for all but the largest businesses. Through our relationship with USi, we enable clients to focus on their core business while leveraging the latest e-commerce technology.''
The single-source managed application model speeds implementation and lowers costs and up-front risks for businesses by packaging state-of-the-art Internet connectivity, a secure network and hosting infrastructure, computing hardware, full applications management services and 24x7x365 customized support.
U S WEST is leveraging its existing distribution channels to extend USi's iMAP solution to businesses quickly. USi provides database and application management services through its Global Network of Enterprise Data Centers. USi's Total Security Architecture(SM) and Priority Peering(SM) contracts with major Internet Service Providers ensure secure, fast and reliable Internet connections for clients.
In July, U S WEST took an equity stake in USi, which constructed a global network of advanced data center facilities to deliver network-hosted applications for mid-size to large businesses. About U S WEST
