debra,
I've now tried to aim for 1000+ or - on a stock if I bought it for trading purposes. If the market looks bad or weird or everyone is skittish I may sell some of my longer term holds and take greater profits off the table.. and buy back in when it feels safer. I try to leave 100-200 shares of my better stocks in my portfolios, just in case one decides to fly. That way I don't feel too bad for selling it!

debra,
addendum to last answer..see? I sold AWRE for 4 1/2 and had I not kept some I would be upset to see it fly now! But I kept 200 and will add next time it drops again. My gains from selling today are "in the bag", the rest are paper gains.....
