Stock of the Month - Serena Software

-From SGCowen's website - sgcowen.com
[Of course, SGCowen makes a market in SRNA and was part of the original equity offering]

Serena's (SRNA $13) products boost the productivity of software engineers and reduce the complexity of large software projects. It is benefiting from the increasing complexity of software projects and the shortage of engineers. It is broadening its focus from mainframes to client-server technology. The recent acquisition of Platinum by CA reduces the number of competitors and enhances its opportunity to win lucrative mainframe complexity management contracts, including change management. We expect strong quarterly results on May 20, since our checks indicate that business momentum is robust. Despite strengthening fundamentals, the stock is down 30% since the recent IPO, and at 19X C99E EPS, is at a steep discount to projected net income growth of about 30% and the 21-23X P/Es of comparables CPWR and BMCS. There is upside from sales capacity expansion, international, and client-server products.
