There has been quite a lot of interest in the plant derived female estrogen replacement from the public, even though Premarin is derived from a natural source (PREgnant MAre's urINe). Ayerest has pretty much had a lock on the hormonal estrogen replacement market for 30 years (there were generic substitutes for a while, but were taken off the market because they weren't identical in composition to the original). Whether it will go over is another thing-there are other plant derived hormonal products on the market, but none come within 1-2% of the volume of prescriptions given out for Premarin.
I think new factors come in to play, however, one being the herbal market-its making big inroads into the medical marketplace, and if the product is perceived as more "natural" (to the public, substitute the word "safer"), the drug may pick up a serious market share.
