V.SCS SCS Solars Computing Systems Inc - SCS Solars and Orbit Network join forces SCS Solars Computing Systems Inc SCS Shares issued 30,557,801 1999-05-12 close $1.29 Wednesday May 12 1999 Mr. Andrew O'Leary reports In a move that bridges the current travel industry distribution systems with the Internet, SCS Solars and Orbit Network, Inc., have signed a four-year contract to deliver on-line information and booking services to air consolidators that is producing increased air seat bookings of 50 per cent for current client adopters. This service has the potential to drive an incremental $3-billion in annual sales in an important niche segment of the travel marketplace that currently sells $500-million per month in air seats for the global airline industry. With airline load factors at all-time highs and commissions on air bookings at an all-time low, travel agents are looking for new ways to make money on air travel tickets. "Air consolidators have been one option, but problems with reliability of timely data and dependence on the phone has made it difficult for agents to do business with this segment," stated Andrew O'Leary, SCS Solars president and chief executive officer. "With our on-line Solarnet Travel Network information service, we access the air consolidator's real-time product information via the Internet and distribute it using the Internet and the Orbit Network to travel agents at their current desktop computer systems provided by Amadeus, Apolllo/Galileo Canada, Sabre and Worldspan." "We're changing the way travel business is done today," remarked Bill Guerin, Orbit's president and founder. "This is a perfect application for realizing the value of Orbit's unique cross platform communications network with its connections to the Internet, AOL, and all major travel agent reservation systems that serve 410,000 travel agents. We provide global reach of travel agent, consumer and corporate buyers for hundreds of travel suppliers and resellers every day." SCS Solars' Solarnet Travel Network has met with success by such industry leaders in the air consolidator marker as DER Travel Services, Trans Am Travel Inc., and with United Kingdom-based consolidators TradeWings Ltd., Lupus Travel Ltd., and Flight Connections Ltd. According to DER Spokesman Stuart Newmark, "We used to receive over 2,000 calls a day from travel agents wanting to book consolidated air." Solarnet gives travel agents access to DER's complete consolidator air fare data base (over 2.2 million fares), on-line in all four airline reservation systems. "Now when they call," commented Stuart, "they're booking, not just looking." Orbit Network Inc., is a one-stop provider of e-commerce solutions for the travel industry. Through its spectrum of distribution channel connections, reservation and settlement systems, marketing and technology consulting, Orbit gives travel suppliers and tourism marketing organizations effectively customized on-line marketing solutions. Orbit is the only e-commerce company that provides proprietary connections to not just the Internet (World Wide Web) but also America Online, Inc., (NYSE: AOL), and all major airline reservation systems, Amadeus, Galileo International (NYSE: GLC), Sabre (NYSE: TSG), and Worldspan.
