<<India is the world's largest gold
consumer and spent more importing
the metal than it did on oil imports
last year. Its offical imports in
calendar 1998 were 614 tonnes
worth $5.8 billion, according to
World Gold Council data, but
unofficial imports would add
another 10 percent to the bill. >>

And this friends, is why the manipulation scheme was just plain STUPID! demographics! Their population grows greatly with every passing day, and despite import restrictions and B.S. stories about changes in culture, things ain't changing fast enough(to cover the manipulators). How much faith can you get people to put in a gold certificate(or any other bit of paper) if they do not trust the issuing government & or they can not read the paper?
