Online Holiday Spending Expected to Increase

Tuesday, October 26, 1999 - 14:06 CDT

Internet consumers expect to buy considerably more online this coming holiday season than they
did last year, a PC Data Online survey revealed today.

The study indicated that 48 percent of Internet shoppers surveyed this past weekend said they plan
to buy more holiday gifts online than in 1998. Only 14 percent said they plan to spend less. More
than 2,100 men and women participated in the online survey.

PC Data said the increase comes from a steady stream of new users and more purchases from
current Internet customers.

More than 25 percent of those surveyed said they purchased online computer software last week,
around 23 percent bought music, and slightly more than 18 percent bought books.
