RING MASTER

One way to reduce your phone bill is to talk less. Another way is to use
MediaRing Talk 99, an application that lets you place free long-distance
calls over the Internet. The interface resembles a telephone keypad, but
unlike other "Internet phones" that imitate the look, Talk 99 allows you
to dial another user's modem phone number, and not the IP address--the
program determines that person's IP address and establishes a direct
connection. Sound quality is excellent, but the program's most impressive
feature is its ability to call offline PCs. When you dial someone who is
not connected to the Internet, Talk 99 sends a signal to that user's
modem. If the receiving PC is powered on and MediaRing Talk 99 is
running, the program will acknowledge the signal and then log itself on
to the Internet to receive the call.
