Dave,

Thanks for the article regarding the operators harmonization group. Also, I apologize for taking so long but I moved into my new digs last weekend and I have been off line(no internet was hell).

Regarding your question about Airtouch saying it would be ok as long as the chip rates were within 5%. I think they are indicating they believe dual rate phones could still be built economically as long as the rates were close enough. They are probably thinking about certain analog circuit design considerations that could be "shared" within the phone.....not having to build redundant circuitry.

There were a few other interesting things in the article. The W-CDMA crowd still insisting on using a higher chip rate(3.86MCPS vs 3.6864MCPS)..... while the W-CDMA mode proposal still has yet to demonstrate higher throughput capability vs CDMA-2000(the multirate mode)not to mention the spectral efficiency question. Still wanting to pay the price for being different I guess. Also, the statement "Pilot structure will resemble that proposed by the cdma2000 camp, while carriers and manufacturers have yet to fully work out the details of synchronization method, which more resembles that of the W-CDMA proposal, say sources. It's just that the pilot structure of CDMA-2000 intends a synchronous signaling system... so it would seem curious to me that they would consider adopting the pilot structure but still be undecided about synchronization... like maybe the asynchronous structure of W-CDMA for instance?? Actually, I get the feeling the author isn't really plugged into all of the details of what is taking place at this meeting.... sounds like the operators understand that the CDMA-2000 pilot and synch are the way to go and might be leaning in that direction.

Dave I didn't have your questions in front of me......hope I answered it/them. Let me know if I missed.
